Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2013 wins top place in Cuisine NZ Pinot Noir Tasting!
"It's a powerful, hedonistic style, but still has delightful freshness and definition," noted judge Sam Harrop (Master of Wine, winemaker and international wine consultant).
Pure dark fruit flows seamlessly and silkily across the palate, enlivened by fresh acidity, and the finish is long and fine. As a food match, try slow-cooked lamb shoulder, spiced with preserved lemon, cumin and coriander seeds.

"Great news for Lowburn Ferry!
"The Drinks Business held our Global Pinot Noir Masters blind tasting
last week and I am pleased to inform you that your wine received a
Gold medal and one of the highest scores in the whole tasting. Our
judges are notorious for being the toughest in the business with many wines failing to reach the medals at all so this was a fantastic
result for Lowburn Ferry. Your result was as follows -
Lowburn Ferry Home block Pinot Noir 2011 Gold (90 points plus)
This Gold medal was extremely hard won, as the judges awarded very few
high scores, as you will see when the results are published. So very
well done to you and your winemakers!"

2013 wines released. Home Block, Skeleton Creek, The Ferryman Reserve
The 2012 Lowburn Ferry 'Home Block' Pinot Noir made it into Gourmet Traveller Wine's Top 100 new releases for 2014 and scored 5 Stars and 96 points. Described as 'An intense, complex, sumptuous pinot that is perfumed with dark plum, black cherry and a hint of violets. There is an appealing gamy influence on the palate. The texture is seductively smooth with a backbone of fine tannins.'
Small Winery soars Sky High!
Lowburn Ferry Wines has capped a string of elite awards for its wines in the past fortnight with the announcement that its pinot noirs will be served in British Airways first class cabins from early next year.
Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2011 will be on board on British Airways flights on the Asia-Pacific sector from March and vineyard owners Jean and Roger Gibson say the association with this premier airline represents a significant endorsement for Lowburn Ferry. They hope the first class patrons, being more or less a "captive audience" will learn more about Central Otago wines during their voyage, improving the profile of the wines in developing markets, particularly Asia.
Lowburn Ferry has also been in the spotlight over the past fortnight having secured a Top 10 placing in the Cuisine magazine Christmas 2014 issue's pinot noir tasting (Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2012), whilst the Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2013 won a Pure Gold medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2014, AND Blue-Gold, Top 100 at the Sydney International Wine Competition 2015. Finally, Lowburn Ferry is once again a TOP 5 Finalist in the NZ/Australia Winestate Wiine of the Year Awards, to be held in Queenstown later this week!

Jancis Robinson champions Lowburn Ferry:
Almost 10 years ago Jancis Robinson listed Lowburn Ferry as one of the new brands to watch out for...recent reviews from JancisRobinson.com prove she was right...:
"Medium crimson. Sweet, like the warm smell billowing from the kitchen when cherry compote is simmering away on the stove. Mouthwatering and tingling with deliciousness. There's a sharp spine, like a slash of cranberry, which snaps all that sweet cherry juice into smart shape, and just a hint of menthol and liquorice to give it the suggestion of a dark side. The tannins lean ever so lightly on the tongue, more playful than practical. One should probably give it another year or so in bottle, but I'd struggle to resist opening it this summer. A wine that will probably give as much pleasure in its callow youth as it will with some mellowing age. (TC)" score 17+ JancisRobinson.com

LOWBURN FERRY HOME BLOCK PINOT NOIR 2009 ACCOLADES CONTINUE
AUSTRALIA/NZ CHAMPION PINOT NOIR OF THE YEAR 2011 AWARD
TO LOWBURN FERRY HOME BLOCK PINOT NOIR 2010
Photo: Lowburn Ferry Wines co-owner Jean Gibson, with China market representative Grahame Shepherd, from the Definitive Group – with the trophy and award winning wine at the Winestate Awards in Auckland. Roger Gibson will be travelling with Grahame to Hong Kong and China later this month to present Lowburn Ferry wines at a huge trade show in Ningbo and to meet with clients in this growing market.
Lowburn Ferry has added another major international award to its tally, bringing home the trophy for Champion Pinot Noir 2011 for Australia and New Zealand - from leading Australian publication, Winestate.
Coming from one of the smallest but brightest stars in the Central Otago wine industry, Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2010 was the top wine from more than 1500 pinot noirs from throughout Australasia tasted by the Winestate magazine panels over the past year. Trophies were presented to category winners in Auckland and Adelaide last week.
Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2010 was also last week awarded a Blue-Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Show where gold medal winning wines are judged again as to how well they compliment foods. It recently also won a Gold Medal at the NZ International Wine Show (where Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2009 was Champion Pinot Noir in 2010).
"We've always felt our block in the Lowburn Valley is a little special. Deep loess silt soils unusually high in organic matter give us the essential ingredients to start working from to produce great grapes," says Roger.
Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2010 is now released in NZ and Australia. We are also proud to announce the release of our inaugural Reserve wine, Lowburn Ferry "The Ferryman" Pinot Noir 2010 made from selected parcels of grapes in our Home Block vineyard. Very limited - only 100 cases made.
The 2011 vintage is all in the barrel in the winery and finally we can catch our breath after a very full-on summer season!
The economic challenges of the past couple of years have been interesting for all of us in the wine industry, however we're pleased to say we're still riding the storm and there are some exciting new opportunities particularly offshore.
Most importantly Lowburn Ferry has consolidated its positioning as a premium brand - and the reviews and awards attributed to our wines in both New Zealand and Australia have helped to establish this.
Following its run of successes - 5 gold medals, and trophy at NZ International Wine Show 2011, in February 2011 Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2009 was named Runner Up Champion Pinot Noir at the Sydney Top 100 International Wine Competition - where the judge's comments all described it as going particularly well with the foods.

LOWBURN FERRY DOUBLE GOLD IN SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL WINE SHOW
15 November 2009
Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2008 has won a coveted Top 100 Award in addition to a Blue-Gold at one of the world's most exceptional wine shows. The Sydney International Wine Competition is unique amongst international wine shows in that the wines are first judged on wine quality before being judged alongside food. Only wines that score high enough to be awarded a Gold Medal in each judging qualify for the unique Blue-Gold (or double Gold) Medal. The 100 wines which score the highest number of aggregate points in both judgings are then given The Top 100 Wine Award.
