NEWS FROM LOWBURN FERRY

Unsetttled weather once again marks the beginning of summer as the vines head into flowering. Wind and rain forecast over the next few days - lets hope it settles again soon. Spring and early summer are such a critical time - first you have to contend with the risk of frost, then hope for a few dry and warm days over the short flowering period to set the grapes for the coming vintage.

In a move that signals the changing and evolving climate of the New Zealand wine industry, six modest growers from Central Otago – the eponymous "Artisans" – have banded together and formed their own group under a unified flag. Lowburn Ferry is proud to be a founding member of the Artisan Winegrowers of Central Otago (AWCO), along with Auburn Wines, Ellero, Georgetown Vineyard, Lindis River and TOSQ.
AWCO aspires to a greater promotion, awareness and appreciation for truly artisan wines; the same people that own the brands are the same people working in the vineyard, crafting the wine and selling the product. The organization will also serve as a collaborative sales and marketing team, combining resources to achieve a critical mass that can more effectively tackle domestic and offshore markets.
Watch out for us doing some joint promotions and tastings in the new year....
