Lowburn Ferry Central Otago Pinot Noir 2006/2007 gold medal winners

News Release:
Lowburn Ferry pinot noir wines, from Central Otago, are showing consistency in quality with every vintage made under the main label attaining gold medal standard. The latest result was announced last week for Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2006 which has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards in Wellington.
This result comes hot on the heels of the recent win by Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2007 - Gold Medal at the NZ International Wine Show

Owners Jean and Roger Gibson say they are thrilled with the results, which consolidate a golden run for the main label wines produced from this vineyard. (The very first wine, Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2003) won Champion Wine of the Show at the NZ Winegrowers Bragato Wine Awards in 2005).

Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2007 has also just been selected by New Zealand Winegrowers (alongside Felton Road Pinot Noir 2007) to represent the Otago region at the London New Release Tasting in January; the wines were selected based on their performance in the New Zealand Winegrowers blind tasting for generic seminars with both the quality of the wine and how well they represented the region taken into account.

From the Vineyard:
Following a cool but not cold winter, it is now spring rolling on into summer here, although the last couple of weeks have seen all seasons. We have lived here 18 years and until a fortnight ago, had never seen snow settling on the ground here at Lowburn in November. The grape vines have had to cope with all extremes, and we have had quite a few sleepness nights frost-fighting - lets hope we settle in now for a good summer...

We are pleased to announce the release of Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2007

Bob Campbell rates this wine 5 stars (see BobsWineReviews.com) : "Silken-textured fruit bomb with masses of dense red and black cherry flavours plus a suggestion of anise and spicy oak. A classic Central Otago style that's easy to love and understand."

We have held over some of the 2006 pinot noir to help keep supplies running - and so now we can offer a mixed half dozen case with 3 bottles of each wine: the 2006 wine is a fantastic food wine now, an elegant and long Pinot Noir displaying ripe blue/black berry characters with a bold, firm palate; the 2007 a more powerful wine with a rich earthy depth, fruits of the forest, wild thyme, savoury oak and a concentrated finish.

The 2008 vintage was kind to us- a perfect hot summer and long cool autumn nights for ripening fruit - we harvested just slightly less than our earlier predictions, which we were very happy with, quality being paramount over quantity.

This time last year we planted a new block of Pinot Noir - this time the Abel clone to compliment and add clonal diversity to our wines.

The past year has seen Lowburn Ferry wines entering some new markets overeas, in particular they are now available in Canada, Sweden, and South Australia, as well as the UK and USA.
We are also very pleased to announce our partnership with Dhall & Nash Fine Wines for distribution of our wines throughout the North Island.

We will be taking part in the Central Otago Pinot Noir Celebration in Queenstown in January, and we have been featured in Michael Cooper's new book, the totally revised "Wine Atlas of New Zealand" - released now just in time for Christmas - look out for it now - its available at www.lowburnferry.co.nz

Cheers,
from Jean & Roger
